Each service holds an important piece of the story, like a set of pictures that interpret one another. On Maundy Thursday we see Jesus serving the disciples. He washes their feet and gives them communion. “Love one another as I have loved you.” On Good Friday that love walks to the cross and dies. The earth shakes and the sky goes dark. And then on the third day. . . .

We retell the story every year because it’s at the heart of our faith. This is how we know who Jesus really is. This is how we know who God really is. The truest picture we have of God is in the life of Jesus.

There are other ways to tell the story, too. Our liturgical arts team has been busy gathering art for a display in the church during the season of Easter. The theme of “New Life” will be on display.

But that’s not the only place we find new life. We worship and grow so that new life takes root in us. And the services we create, the music we sing, the prayers we offer, the art we share, all form the whole picture—that God is at work recreating us.
