Hye Jeong Kwon

FPC Director of Music

Our new music director has a personal mission very much akin to our church mission: Her mission, “Love God and Love People,” blends nicely with our church’s mission: “Love First, Love All.”

Hye Jeong Kwon, a native of South Korea, brings not only a strong educational background in voice, piano and conducting; but also an impressive resume of leadership experience in music.

“The committee saw in Hye Jeong a commitment to quality church music and a desire to lead worship,” says Sarah McCown, chair of the Music Director Search Team which comprised of Mary Ellen Gurley, Beverly Higdon, Adam Stark, and Judy McPherson.

“She has extensive training in choral conducting and her enthusiasm is contagious. Her life goal exemplifies the mission of First Presbyterian Church, Dalton, and we are very excited to be having her join us.”

In addition to a bachelor’s degree in music performance from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls, she earned a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting at Georgia State University.

At Georgia State, she was awarded a Graduate Assistantship and served as an associate conductor of the GSU Master Singers. During that time, she also served as a music intern at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta conducting and rehearsing the orchestra, chancel choir and bell choir, as well as providing accompaniment for Wednesday and Sunday services.

Kwon has been a member of the J. W. Summer Festival Chorale, the semi-professional choir in Seoul, South Korea, and was a music intern with the Seoul Metropolitan Children’s Choir.

She lives in Dalton with her husband, Daniel, and enjoys cooking Korean foods.
