Ken’s e-Pistle
April 26, 2023
Sadly, I must inform you that our Organist/Choirmaster, Adam Burnette, has resigned due to health reasons. He has been one of the highlights of my time as your Interim Pastor, consistently offering a superb music program which I consider among the best in my career. He will be deeply missed and always loved.
It takes a special type to accept the yoke of service in a congregation. You must be prophetic but not outspoken. Cooperative but not a push-over. Patient but not without limits. Highly educated, trained and experienced but accessible to all. You must have a sense of humor but keep a serious demeanor. You must have an abiding faith which keeps your head in the clouds and your feet firmly on the ground. You must lead with a servant’s heart, firmly guide with a gentle hand and appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds while keeping your own identity. You must be willing to sit calmly and lovingly beside those who are having the worst day of their lives without any expectation that such compassion will be reciprocated. You must prepare diligently for weekly worship and meetings which only a blessed few will attend as if their lives depend upon it.
But those blessed few make all the difference. If you are attentive, you can see the Kingdom in their eyes and feel the love of Jesus beating in their hearts. You sense anew the call which has set you apart for holy work and drink deeply from the well of faith which God has refreshed with His grace. You can soar on the wings of the Spirit and view the perspective of the angels as you are strengthened to make it another day. Such is the life of those who have heard the need and responded as if their lives depend upon it.
For they do.
I will miss my colleague and friend, Adam Burnette. May your next endeavor bring you joy, fulfillment and peace.
We especially bid you peace!
