Nicole’s e-Pistle

Hello, friends!

I am writing to you on Tuesday morning, as I listen to the steady rain outside my office windows. Do you like rainy days? While I do not love having to rush to get my daughter loaded into the car for school while it is raining or having to run through a parking lot with a full cart of groceries in the rain, I have always enjoyed rainy days in general. There are some, however, who feel that rainy days are dreary. After all, you cannot see the sunlight, the world turns into shades of gray rather than the vibrant colors of summer or fall, and every spooky story seems to begin with, “It was a dark and stormy night…”

Still, with the number of gardeners that we have in the congregation, I’m sure most of you are grateful for the rain to water your gardens and wash away some of the pollen allergens we’ve been enjoying for the past couple of weeks. I also love the calming nature of rain. Its rhythmic sound makes for the perfect chance to snuggle up under a warm blanket with a hot beverage and a good book. The air smells fresher and the earth feels cleaner.

Rainy days can also be a reminder of God’s love of creation. Psalm 147:8 says, “He covers the heavens with clouds, prepares rain for the earth, makes grass grow on the hills.” God sends water from the heavens to quench the thirsty ground, just as Jesus Christ is Living Water to quench our thirsty souls. So, when the next rainy day comes, cozy up with a cup of hot tea, close your eyes, breathe in the cool fresh air, and let God’s love rain down upon you.

Blessings and peace,
